WHAT IT IS
SOS Tortues Bretagne is a non-profit in Brittany that shelters abandoned tortoises, both aquatic and land species (not sea turtles). It takes in more than 450 of them, many sick, injured, or that were never properly cared for. It runs entirely on volunteers, donations, and a lot of patience and hard work.
WHY I CARE
I care about wildlife, and about animals in general. About life, really. Tortoises, like most animals, are pushed to the edge by all sorts of human activity, from trade to pollution, and we get calls almost every day about abandoned ones. Very few shelters specialize in tortoises. I was no expert when I joined, and I still am not, but I wanted to learn enough to give the ones we rescue a better life. Animal shelters never have enough hands. And I genuinely love the whole atmosphere that tortoises carry around with them.
HOW TO HELP
Like most causes, the easiest way to help is a donation, even a small one. It goes straight into food and building materials. If you would rather help another way, or just want to know more, reach out.
